ELMHURST, IL – Joe Antonacci is a comedian, but he apparently got no laughs during an April incident in Elmhurst.

Antonacci, 61, of Oakbrook Terrace, was charged last month with assault and criminal defacement in connection with a road rage incident during the afternoon of April 29, police said.

Antonacci is not only a comedian, but a boxing ring announcer, working for major promoters.

Through a public records request, Patch obtained the police report on Antonacci's arrest.

According to the report, a 27-year-old man called police about a driver, later identified as Antonacci, who got out of his Lexus and approached the victim's car on Route 83 in Elmhurst.

Police said video of the incident showed Antonacci yelling to the 27-year-old, "P----, get out of the f------ car!"

Antonacci tried to reach into the window, which was partially open, police said. But the 27-year-old closed it.

Antonacci then spit at the car, leaving residue, police said.

A detective worked to identify the suspect. The Lexus had Bob Rohrman Auto Group license plate placards.

The detective checked a number of Rohrman dealerships to see whether the driver was an employee. He also visited dealerships to find the car. But he had no luck.

The investigation was closed in early June.

A little more than a week later, a Streamwood police officer who saw an alert about the road rage incident recognized the suspect as Antonacci, a comedian.

Elmhurst police checked Antonacci's Facebook page, and the photos of Antonacci strongly resembled the suspect, police said.

That same day, officers went to Antonacci's Oakbrook Terrace apartment.

In an interview, Antonacci said he didn't remember any road rage incidents, but after further questioning, he admitted it happened, police said.

Antonacci, a New Jersey native, said the other driver gave him the finger. He said that where he comes from, that means the person wants to do the victim harm. He said he told the driver, "Be a man" and asked him to get out of the car.

Antonacci said he remembered tapping on the window, not trying to reach into the car, police said. When asked, Antonacci reluctantly admitted to spitting on the car, according to the report.

He said he had thought a lot about the incident since, especially when he heard about a woman being killed in a road rage incident, police said. He said he should have been smarter.

Antonacci said he believed the 27-year-old was the aggressor when he gave a 61-year-old man the finger, brake-checked him and honked his horn, according to the report.

But he acknowledged he was the aggressor once he got out of his car, police said.

Antonacci was released on bond.
