A few months ago we covered Unior Bike Tool’s super comprehensive Master Tool Kit for the traveling bike mechanic. Here we are again to tell you that Unior Bike Tools have two new additions to their already expansive line of bicycle-specific tools – the Pro Wheel Truing Stand and new Spoke Wrenches.

This is their version 2 Pro Truing stand. Unior says that they worked directly with professional bike mechanics to redesign many of the features on this new version. For instance, they say that the base is now stronger to improve the precision. They also provide you with one-size-fits-all (12, 15, 20mm) conical, magnetic thru-axles adapters that Unior says will store anywhere on the base.

Unior also say that they have elongated the arms to accommodate 29+ wheels and widened the calipers accordingly. The new stand also is said to work with all thru-axles up to 197mm in width, with a max opening of 230mm (without the use of adapters), making it fat bike-compatible.

A look at the spring that loads the upright arms and the bench mounting holes.

Unior says that the new bearings on the upright adjust axle are spring loaded for what claims to be improved precision while reducing the frequency of calibration.

If you wanted to mount it directly to your bench or to a portable DIY wood base the new stand comes with 8mm bench mount holes that are spaced at 268 (center to center) to help accommodate that!

The new Pro Truing Stand is stealthier and comes in all black, with redesigned caliper tips for what should make for easier radial tuning as well as revised threads and springs for smoother operation. The new Stand also comes with high gloss stickers to cover the base and arms for “improved background contrast”.

The Unior Pro Truing stand accepts wheels from 16″ to 29+” with or without a tire. The Stand supports solid, QR and thru-axle hubs. One pair of thru-axle adapters (included) supports all sizes of thru-axles.

Unior also states that the new Pro Truing Stand will accommodate brake rotor truing as well with additional calipers mounted to the slots in the upright arm. There is also an adaptor available for you wacky Cannondale Lefty users as well. 🙂

Unior Bike Tools’ new spoke wrenches are color coded for easy identification in the following sizes: 3.30, 3.45, and DT Swiss TX20. I have to say, the large wing-nut wings look super comfy and Unior states they help with precise use…I could see how that would work. Unior also notes that the spoke nipple is held on all 4 flats for secure operation.

I like the spoke wrenches. But that’s hardly color coding. If they aren’t next to each other, it’s likely that my assistant (cough) would choose the wrong orange wrench.

That stand looks great but is VERY similar to Park Tool’s popular shop quality model. Unior is playing catchup with compatibility and has a considerably higher price.

Park ripped off 90% of its designs and even the color of the tools from VAR. The Unior truing stand is 3 dollars less, with the fat bike tire calipers than the comparable Park TS-4.2. The Unior centering gauge is 10 dollars less than the park unit. I could go on here. The unior derailleur hanger alignment gauge is 23 dollars less, better design than the DAG 3. Etc. Unior was founded in 1919, Park in 1963. Who is playing catch up with who?

I’ve’ built many hundreds of wheels. No non-metal wrench will ever sustain usage over an extended period. Period.

Err… I guess that’s why they made their spoke wrenches ou of metal ‍♂️
